| Santa Maria is the most southern and sunny island of the Acores. Close to the Gulf-stream the climate is very mild over the whole year. A constant breeze makes even the hottest days of the year agreeable.
Green hills with meadows and pastures for cows, vineyards, banana plantations, small groups of typical old houses with their breadovens, original forests give the island a lovely face. The coasts are a mixture of steep cliffs and wonderful sand beaches. Individual travellers will find an island with plenty of space for own ideas and engagement. |
